Why We Blog

It is not all doom and gloom. Going green and being more sustainable is a challenge but it can also be exciting and rewarding. In our work we count ourselves lucky to meet people and hear their stories. We see committed and inspiring entrepreneurs, social enterprises, charities and communities who are doing incredible green things with real gusto, making a genuine difference.

The government might be moving at a snail’s pace and the reports on questionable climate change science can be frustrating. If you combine this with the fact that so many people are still in denial about climate change, even seemingly intelligent and educated people (rather embarrassingly, like my Dad!), it can be difficult to see how we will save ourselves and our planet.

So, we want our blog to be a source of motivation and encouragement, a vehicle for showcasing some of the fantastic and inspiring things that are happening through individuals, organizations and communities.

When you talk to people like Dale Vince of Ecotricity, you get a sense of what is possible if you have a real mission. Dale has gone from being a traveler living a sustainable lifestyle off-grid, to ‘dropping back in’ to society to set up a pioneering green energy company. And not just that, instead of cashing in on his success - he was recently voted Sunday Times Green Entrepreneur of the Year – or selling out, he chooses to reinvest revenue into building in new green energy for the UK.

Our Eco Heroes section on the blog is about people who we admire for doing interesting things, people with passion, integrity and new ideas, who deserve to be seen and heard. Every month we interview people and post the Q&A online.

At Greenhouse we like to think we are all about the positive difference that you can make. We don’t see being green to be all about giving things up and going without. Being green and sustainable can be all about a new way of life that values and celebrates the good things in life.
