Solar Needs You
Matilda Lee | 05.06.11
‘The Government's reckless plan to review solar feed-in tariffs has created uncertainty in one of the few industries to have generated thousands of new green jobs. Proposals to slash financial support to solar projects over 50kW have further laid bare the shocking lack of ambition on solar energy.’
Caroline Lucas, Leader of the Green Party, England and Wales
A new campaign called Solar Needs You calls on the government to re-think solar and to increase its ambitions for solar in the UK. The campaign, launched by the Solar Trade Association and supported by environmentalists, businesses and consumers, asks people to sign a petition online and register their support for solar.
Millions of people around the world are using clean, green solar energy to power their homes and businesses. In Germany, where Ministers have recently put a shut down on nuclear energy power stations, there are plans to invest in solar in order to generate more than 50 per cent of their energy by 2020. And yet the development of solar power in the UK is under threat.
Solar is the fastest growing energy technology with rapidly decreasing costs and is popular and easy to implement fast. By 2020 solar could meet 30 per cent of our electricity needs in the UK.
The campaign launches a Solar Revolution Strategy for the UK to ensure that we maximize the benefits of solar giving power back to the people.
If you want to support solar in the UK then please sign the petition on the website and spread the word to your networks via Facebook or Twitter.
