EIA
The Environmental Investigation Agency is an independent investigation and campaigning organisation which is committed to bringing about change that protects the natural world from environmental crime and abuse.
We launched The Chilling Facts Campaign 2010 - set up by EIA to highlight the global warming impacts of refrigeration and air conditioning gases and promote climate-friendly alternatives. Leaking refrigerants accounts for about a third of a supermarket’s direct climate change emissions. In 2005, the global warming impact of supermarket HFC emissions was equivalent to producing 10 billion plastic carrier bags, taking two billion car trips to the supermarket or flying from London to New York more than 2.5 million times.
The campaign was launched with a full page article in The Guardian and on Sky News, and the supermarkets responded with agreeing deadline dates for the phase out of HFCs.
