Challenge

Big60Million’s mission is to give all 60 million people in the UK the chance to share in and benefit from the clean energy revolution, benefit financially from affordable, reliable and clean investments which will help combat climate change, improve energy security and protect the environment for the future. Their model takes the form of Solar Bonds: Big60Million’s first Solar Bond in 2014 was the UK’s first to meet the Climate Bond Standard.

Our task was to help potential investors clearly understand their unique approach and inspiring way of creating community-led investments by launching its latest three solar farm projects, the UK’s biggest renewables mini-bond offer.

Approach

Awareness of the investment opportunity on a local and national scale was the number one focus for the team – all of Big60Million’s projects actively set out to enhance and develop the local communities around them socially, environmentally and financially.

Launching its 34MW portfolio in three new farms across the UK also provided an opportunity to explain how community projects can be scaled up to create the low carbon economy that we urgently need.

We launched the campaign in the media across the UK and local to each solar farm, developing videos and case studies of local investors, and supporting with a local advertising campaign.

Following the launch we organsed an informal open day at Big60Million’s first Solar Farm in Willersey, telling its story one year on and demonstrating the positive impact it’s had on the environment, links with the local community and the financial offer for investors.

Result

The launch was featured in national print, regional TV and radio, and across all regional and local print media, including TV and radio.

Coverage in The Independent, an on-site interview at the solar farm in Paddock Wood with ITV Meridian, two live interviews on BBC Radio Coventry & Warwickshire were standout highlights, along with pieces in the Birmingham Post, Utility Week, Solar Power Portal and widespread local print media exposure.

The open day at Willersey Solar Farm was well attended by media (including BBC Online), local investors, partners and community supporters.
